Stringent protocols ensuring consistency, quality and accuracy

Many of the transactions carried out through the trade of commodities using FOSFA contracts are conducted on a cash-against-documents basis. As such, trust and reliance is placed on the validity and accuracy of the Certificates of Weight and the Certificates of Analysis that are issued.

Therefore, we have developed rigorous protocols that independent member superintendents and analysts must comply with. These include Contractual Methods of Sampling and Contractual Methods of Analysis

Under the terms of our contracts, only those who are superintendent or analyst FOSFA registered members can be appointed to act in these roles and provide contractually required technical services to the trade. This ensures the stringent conditions and methods we have put in place are followed.

  • Superintendents provide inspection services and use Contracted Methods of Sampling to draw samples for assessment and analysis. They also assess the weight of a commodity and produce a Certificate of Weight.

  • Analysts are appointed to carry out tests on the samples in order to ascertain that the goods are of contractual quality/specification. The results are reported in a Certificate of Analysis.
