e-Newsletter – Spring 2016
39 delegates registered for the Seminar held at the Westin Hotel in Lima last month. This exceeded both IFFO’s and FOSFA’s expectations and outreached to predominantly Peruvian and Chilean companies active in the fish oil trade and related services. However a Marseille based French Company operating also in Morocco made the long flights to attend the event (and encouraginglly were persuaded to come into membership). A promise of Ghanaian participation sadly did not materialise.
Head of delegation Christian Meinich, FOSFA’s Deputy President, gave a Market Outlook which was well received, and the balance of the lecturing was shared between Mr Roger Rookes (Contracts, Execution and dispute management) and Stuart Logan (FOSFA, Arbitration Services and Trade and Transit Issues).
It was a great opportunity to brief the South American Fish oil Trade on pending Flexitank terms actively being finalised for issue in the Summer.
Our thanks are shared with delegates attending, our key Presenter Mr Rogers Rookes and IFFO’s in-house country staff member Mr Jorge Mora, Operations Director, now in his 10th year with IFFO, ‘The Ingredients Organisation’. His assistance proved invaluable.
We hope to conduct a further seminar event with IFFO in the Northern Hemisphere in due course – potentially China.
In March 2016 we said our farewells to Miss Anna Baran, who left the Secretariat after over 28 years loyal service. She has had the long association with the Newsletters, the highly successful Trade Education Course and since 2002, Membership. Her term spanned 14 Presidents and we estimate over 2,000 course delegates (UK residential courses). Fittingly the Tallow Chandlers also marked her departure with a generous gift – their trade mark silver candlestick.
The Council, Secretariat Colleagues, no doubt many past course delegates and the members generally wish her our very best wishes as she undertakes a more local to home (in Kent) career move. Her expertise, willingness and enthusiasm will be missed.
